How to Remove Hair Dye and Color Removal Methods
By Tammy Favata
Okay now you've done it. You thought that you would like being a brunette, but the whole thing has backfired, because you hate it. Removing hair color is not easy, but it can be done. Most likely your color will fade a little with clarifying treatments or many shampoos, but if you want to really get rid of the hair color, more extreme measures need to be taken.
Here are a few hair color removal methods....
Hair color remover
There are actual hair color remover products that will take the color right out. It is a bit of a process and it doesn't smell so good. The way it works is you apply the product on the sections of the hair that you want the color to be removed, wait for the product to process and shampoo it out. You may have to do the treatment a couple of times and the results can be unpredictable. The treatment works better on permanent hair color then semi-permanent or demi-permanent hair color. Sometimes this application works great, but other times a little tweaking is needed by applying another color or toner when done.
Bleach wash
You can apply a bleach wash or some people call it a shampoo cap . This is a variable combination of shampoo, bleach, and peroxide. This is done by working the pasty mixture into the hair until the unwanted hair color is lifted out. It should remove the color, but chances are that you will get uneven results, because bleach can be so unpredictable when it comes to removing color. Any new outgrowth or roots will lighten up more then the hair that was previously colored, because the colored hair will be harder for the bleach to break though. You will have to do some sort of color or toner in the end to get an even and attractive result.
Highlights
You can work with the color that you have by keeping the darker color as a base and highlight over it. This is a more gradual approach and you will have more control of the results. Wait a couple of weeks and highlight it again and just keep rehighlighting every 2 weeks until you get it back to the blonde you are looking for. Make sure you do plenty of deep conditioning treatments in between and take it easy on the heat styling. The dark hair color you had on on your hair before will fade over time and you might find that you like your hair color somewhere in between blonde and brown and love the whole blonde on brown thing.
Removing hair color can be a tricky thing to do, but with the right products and know how anything is possible!
