How Often Should You Cut Your Hair
How often you should your haircut varies from one person to the next.
This is a question that my clients ask me all the time. You might want to ask yourself what you plan on doing with your hair in the future. If you are happy with your current style then you need to get your haircut more often to keep it up. On the other hand, if you are trying to grow your hair out you want to get your haircut less frequently. The main thing is that you want to keep your hair healthy. Maintaining healthy hair does require you to get haircuts on a regular base along with using the proper hair care products. Your shampoo and conditioner strongly effect the health of your hair as well.
Men typically should get a trim every 3 to 5 weeks.
After about 5 weeks the hair starts to grow over the ears and the back of the neck can get really hairy. If a man wants to look professional it is important that he stays nicely groomed.
If you are happy with your current style, make sure you get a haircut every 4 to 6 weeks.
If your hair is short you should get it cut closer to 4 weeks, if you have long hair you can stretch it out to 6 weeks.
Even if you are trying to grow your hair out, you should still try to get your haircut every 6 weeks.
After 6 weeks you will start to notice split ends and they will get worse and worse like an unraveling sweater. In other words you will have to cut off the same amount of hair anyway, so you might as well keep it up.
Always get a haircut after a chemical service.
Your hair undergoes added stress every time you can get any kind of chemical service. Chemicals and the aggressive shampooing needed can stretch and pull your hair, especially chemical relaxers and permanent waves, so it is good to trim your ends afterwards to keep it even and healthy looking.
Using the proper hair care products can preserve your haircut longer.
Using the right shampoo and conditioner is very important, because it is sort of like your hair's food. Have you ever herd the saying "You are what you eat," the same rule goes for your shampoo and conditioner. Every Time you wash your hair you are removing dirt and oil at the same time you are providing your hair with vitamins and moisture. Using the right hair care products will preserve your haircut longer, because your hair will be heathier and less damaged so you won't have as many dry and split ends.
So mark your calendars every time you go to the hair salon so you remember when to come back, or you can always rebook your appointment while you are there. We hairstylists love that!
