Going From Bleached Blonde to Brunette Hair Color

Updated on July 28, 2011

Being a blonde is a blast, but being a brunette has its advantages as well. Brown hair can look more rich and shinier in its appearance. Brown hair usually requires less maintenance and it's easier on the condition of your hair. If you are sure this is what you want and you are ready for a big change, there are a few different ways that you can go about it.

Some reasons bleach blondes go to brunette.......

♦ What started out as a few highlights, now looks like an all over blonde color that you never asked for.

♦ The damage caused from the bleach is frying your hair.

♦ The maintenance takes up too much of your time and money.

♦ You just want to change your look.

Before completely covering your blonde hair and going to an all over brunette, you might want to really think it through. It can be hard to remove the brown hair color once it's in there and if you change your mind, you will have to undergo some corrective hair coloring. Often times after someone colors there their hair brown after being blonde for an extended period of time they don't like it. It's too drastic of a change and they miss their golden locks. In many cases they will usually stay with the brown hair color for a little while and ultimately go back to being blonde again. These clients might want to take a more subtle approach at first when coloring their hair brown.

However there are those that like being a brunette better. They have had brown hair before and they know exactly what they are getting into. These people that were born to be brunettes are ideal for going from blonde to brown.

Demi-permanent hair color is ideal to use during any kind of tint back service. The demi-permanent is a deposit only color so there is minimal damage. This type of hair color also has the ability to penetrate through the cuticle (the outer layer of the strand) and slightly into the cortex (the middle layer of the strand), so you have long lasting results.

Different methods you can use to go from bleached blonde to brunette......

♦ You can do a reverse highlight or apply lowlights into the hair. This is done by weaving in the brown color with foils. This will add some depth into the hair and give you a taste of what the brown hair will look like.

♦ You can color your hair light brown or a darker blonde shade. This will tone your hair color down without too major of a change.

♦ You can color the nape of your head brown. Coloring the lower back part of the hair can give you more of a brunette look without coloring the whole head brown. This method works well with lowlights mixed in the rest of your hair.

♦ Color the entire head a rich chocolate brown hair color. Apply the whole head with demi-permanent hair color and place a bag on your hair. Sit under a hooded dryer or diffuse your hair with a hair-dryer during processing time. The heat will lock your color in and will make it last longer.

You also want to invest in some color preserving shampoo and conditioner, because this will help keep your new brown hair color looking fresh.

Going from a bleached blonde to a brunette can be a big change. However if you are ready for it and you are using the right technique, you can have successful results.
